Through semantic analysis, we interpreted the oral histories of residents and employees of the Thurston Woods neighborhood in Milwaukee. In these oral histories, we were focused on specific terms and topics that many people discussed, including Stewardship and Racial Conflict/Identity. There are many interpretations of these concepts, just a few of which are depicted below.

Stewardship
Most people interviewed agree that the Agape Center is a major contributor to the success of the Thurston Woods neighborhood. It offers assistance through many different outlets, including providing a safe alternative for kids other than playing out on the street; providing jobs; giving all people a chance at a successful future; and helping out in neighborhood activities. Besides the Agape Center, many people in the neighborhood also work hard to make the community a safer and more appealing place. Conflict/Identity
Many conflicts from the community stem from racial issues. Some people think that racism is a major problem the the Thurston Woods neighborhood, while others believe that it is not that big of a deal and encourage people to keep an open mind and accept the diversity. |
